Mahoning County woman charged with 2016 death of 3-year-old son

A Mahoning County woman has been charged with the 2016 death of her 3-year-old son in Akron on Wednesday.

According to court records, Amanda Jo Bunner, 33, of the 12000 block of Salem Warren Road in Green Township was arraigned Wednesday morning in Akron Municipal Court, charged with the murder of her son Jaxon Ross Bunner. Bunner was taken into custody by Akron Police Department on Tuesday.

According to the Summit County Medical Examiner, the boy died on April 13, 2016, at a home in the 300 block of Palm Avenue in Akron.

The Medical Examiner's office told 21 News that the boy's death was ruled a homicide, the cause of death was from a subdural hemorrhage with traumatic brain swelling, and herniation from a craniocerebral blunt force trauma, and listed signs of prior physical abuse and neglect in the report. 

Bunner's bail was set at $1 million, and she is due in court on May 24 in Akron.
