Grove City Police warning residents of loan scam

Grove City Police are warning residents of a loan scam going around.

According to a press release, a 61-year-old woman was notified via text that she was the recipient of a loan and to contact the number provided.

Police say once the woman contacted the number, she was instructed to obtain gift cards and provide them to the scammer in order to receive the loan.

The victim did this three different times totaling $3,800 in gift cards. Investigation revealed the scammer was located outside of the United States.

Police remind residents to be cautious of anyone asking for payment over the phone or over the internet, and if you believe that you are the victim of a scam to contact your local police department.
