Just in time for planting season garden centers in The Valley have a bumper crop of flowers to brighten the landscape of your home.
They also have the plants you need for your home garden whether you're a beginner or an experienced green thumb.
WFMJ News talked with an assistant manager at Petitti Garden Center in Boardman and the owner of Parks Garden Center in Canfield.
At Petitti in Boardman and their stores across the region flowers are in bloom.
People browsed and bought items they need to beautify their yards, porches, planters, and homes.
"All varieties geraniums, petunias, and stuff and even like the big ferns for your porch, they're coming in and now's the time to come in and pick out the ones you want," Petitti's Garden Center in Boardman Assistant Store Manager Fred Shepherd said.
They also onions, cabbage and early cold weather crops ready to plant now. Along with herbs like basil, parsley and many others to spice up your cuisine.
"We have from basil's, to chives, to peppermints, parsley, and things like that"Shepherd added.
"We have a lettuce bowl which is a mix variety or we have a couple straight varieties so they're just great. What they're good for is you can just keep cutting them and keep eating them all the time. They will keep reproducing until it starts to get really hot out," Shepherd said.
At Petitti Garden Centers they also have patio furniture, planters, yard decorations, and more.
In Canfield at Parks Gardens flowers are in bloom!
Tag Day is taking place there so you can pick out several of the largest 16 inch hanging matching baskets, yet pick them up by May first.
"Everybody is out and about today gathering things up, today we have 80 degree weather. It's wonderful, but we have to understand next week it could be 30 degrees, so we don't want to have customers not set up for success, so we try to make sure everyone is aware there are annuals. There's no hurry to get them now. There's a lot of things that can be picked up May first," Tim Parks said.
The owner of Parks Garden Center tells us there are a lot of folks with green houses and they like to get them now. But for people who don't have a green house, we have Tag Day.
At Parks Gardens you can also select from a variety of shade trees, shrub's, and flowering trees, you can plant and enjoy for generations.
The owner Tim Parks tells WFMJ News they have been working all season long getting everything planted and ready for retail.
"We have Pansies, Violas that can go in the ground now, but as the calendar rolls that changes daily so a lot of the perennials in another five to seven days you can harden those off and some of those can be planted," Parks said.
Parks also has a variety of planters and decorations for sale.
"This is a Magnolia, over here we have Miss Kim Lilac, we have the new Hydrangeas down here, Little Lime Punch, Little Quick Fires and so many more," Parks added.
They also have a variety of herbs to plant in your garden or containers then use to spice up your meals such as Basil's, Sages, Spearmint's, Kentucky Colonel, Rosemary and more.
The owner tells us more people are looking at ways to bring more fresh foods into their homes, so they're plating one or two tomato, pepper, or zucchini plants which help them save money at the same time.
Both Parks Garden Center and Petitti Garden Centers say they have knowledgeable staff to help you determine what plants grow in sun or shade, the best planting seasons, how large the plants or flowering trees grow to help set even novices up for success!
