North Jackson man charged with OVI, verbally and physically attacking officers

A North Jackson man is facing charges for allegedly attacking police officers after being pulled over.
According to the police report, officers attempted to pull over 46-year-old John Hartman after he was seen driving near the intersection of Gladstone Road and State Route 45 and appeared to be unconscious.
When attempting a traffic stop, Hartman allegedly raised his head and drove onto Gladstone Road where he eventually stopped near the railroad tracks.
Police say they could smell alcohol on Hartman's breath when they approached the car. Hartman allegedly became belligerent and hostile toward officers while claiming that he only had one beer and that it was illegal for police to stop him.
According to the report, Hartman was ordered out of the car. When an officer opened his door, Hartman allegedly said "Don't open my f****** door" and got out on his own while stumbling and having a hard time keeping his balance.
Police asked Hartman if he had a weapon on him to which he said he had a pocket knife and began reaching in his pocket.
After Hartman was handcuffed, he allegedly said "Take the gun and badge away from you, I'll beat the f*** out of you, I'll remember your face."
The report says Hartman was put inside the cruiser where he began to headbutt the bars and cut his head, leaving blood running down his face. Medical personnel on the scene tried to treat Hartman but he allegedly struck officers.
While waiting for Hartman to be seen at the hospital, he allegedly told officers multiple times that he was going to kill them and cause harm to their families.
Hartman had to be sedated by medical staff after striking officers and hospital workers.
Police have charged Hartman with assault on a peace officer, intimidation and OVI.
