Over 1,100 men from across the region attended the Men's Rally in the Valley at Stambaugh Stadium in Youngstown.
The yearly event brings men of faith together for fellowship, music, to pray and hear the word of God.
The theme of this year's rally is "To God Be The Glory." Actor Kevin Sorbo who became an international star when he landed the lead role in Hercules, The Legendary Journeys, was a guest speaker.
Sorbo's message to men is that they should not let anyone set their limitations, especially themselves. That they should not let fear control their lives, that the only person they should fear, it's in the Bible, is God.
"I'm here to hopefully motivate people to move past all the roadblocks in life, because none of us is promised an easy life. Everybody's got a story, but most people don't react to those stories in the right way. They blame all the wrong people instead of themselves. Look in the mirror and start there and make your life better and stop complaining," Sorbo said.
This Easter weekend, Sorbo explained Easter is about Jesus's sacrifice on the cross.
"The tomb is empty. He has risen, so there is hope for all those people who don't believe in redemption, because redemption is real and it's sacrifice. Sacrifice is a very important part of all of our lives and Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice.
During the event, Sorbo told men not to put limits on themselves, and to work through life's roadblocks.
Roadblocks have been put in the actor's way.
"I'm pretty much the first victim of cancel culture because of my being conservative and Christian. I've been very fortunate since Hollywood gave me the boot, I've shot over 50 movies to continue my career," Sorbo said.
Sorbo explained he believes in doing positive movies instead of those that promote violence, sex, anger, and division.
Sorbo has shot over 70 movies, most notably: What If, God’s Not Dead, Soul Surfer, Reagan, Let There Be Light, and Miracle in East Texas.
He has also appeared in over 20 television shows such as “Just Shoot Me, “Two and a Half Men”, “Dharma and Greg”, “According to Jim”, “Gary Unmarried”, “Psych”, “Hawaii 5-0”, and “The OC”.
Sorbo has also been narrating documentaries such as: Exodus; Proof of Evidence, Before the Wrath, Climate Hustle 2, Against the Tide, and Eating with the Enemy.
He recently starred in the major motion picture, “Reagan”, with Dennis Quaid playing the late President and Sorbo as his pastor will release in the Winter of 2023. Sorbo also directed and acted in the latest Left Behind movie based off the Jerry Jenkins award winning books, Rise of the Anti-Christ is due in theaters in January, 2023.
Kevin released his memoir in 2012, “True Strength: My Journey from Hercules to Mere Mortal and How Nearly Dying Saved My Life”. He also co-wrote the follow up book, “True Faith, Embracing Adversity to Live in God’s Light”, with his wife, Sam.
