A program providing funds to adoptive parents who finalized the adoption of a child under the age of 18 in 2023 launched Friday, April 7. Adoptive parents are able to apply for up to $20,000 in grant funding from the state of Ohio.

The Ohio Adoption Grant Program allows adoptive parents to receive $10,000 for adopting a youth, $15,000 for being a foster caregiver to a child prior to adoption, and $20,000 for adopting a child with special needs.

Privately arranged adoptions and adoptions made through a public service agency qualify for grants. However, adoptions made by a stepparent do not apply.

"Every child deserves a safe, permanent, loving home," said DeWine. "Whether you're adopting from the foster care system, or through private adoption, the Ohio Adoption Grant will help offset the cost of growing your family."

Parents who've adopted a child can visit AdoptionGrant.Ohio.gov to apply for the grant.
