Three firefighters treated after blaze at Brookfield business
Three firefighters required medical treatment after departments from nine communities in Trumbull County battled flames for five-and-a-half hours at an excavation and storage business in Brookfield Tuesday evening.
Dispatchers got a call at around 6 p.m. that flames were coming from a building on the 5800 block of Warren Sharon Road, across from 84 Lumber.
The first crews to arrive reported heavy fire in the construction company’s maintenance garage area with flames extending into other sections of the building.
Firefighters from Vienna, Hubbard, Burghill-Vernon, Howland, Liberty, Orangeville, and Fowler were called in to assist Brookfield.
Because of the age and construction of the building firefighters say they had a difficult time reaching many hidden pockets of fire in the building.
Investigators say that although the building and some of its contents suffered major damage, the owner was fortunate the fire didn’t consume the entire building. Much of the equipment was able to be salvaged, according to the Brookfield Fire Department.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Two others were treated on scene for heat stress and fatigue. No civilian injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office.
