Newton Falls Schools currently lacking resource officer due to 'miscommunication'
The Newton Falls Exempted Village School District is currently lacking a resource officer due to what school officials describe as a "miscommunication" with village officials.
According to district Superintendent, Justin Christopher, the district received an invoice last week higher than the contractual agreement for the price of a resource officer.
Christopher says that the village thought there was a verbal agreement, but states that the board has to approve any amendments to the contract that would approve a higher cost for an officer.
Due to the miscommunication, there is currently no resource officer at the school, but Christopher says deputies with the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department are increasing patrols around the school and doing walkthroughs of the buildings throughout the day.
This will continue until the district can get a proper resource officer back.
A meeting on the matter will be held at the Newton Falls K-5 Elementary and Middle School building Wednesday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m.
The Newton Falls Board of Education, Superintendent and Treasurer will all be in attendance. The meeting is open to the public.
