Cleveland Clinic and IBM unveil first quantum computer for healthcare research
Doctors and their patients at Cleveland Clinic affiliated health centers will now be able to benefit from the first private quantum computer in the U.S.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, the IBM Quantum System One is the first and most powerful computer of its kind dedicated to healthcare research and was just unveiled at Cleveland Clinic's main campus in Ohio.
Doctors at the clinic expect it to speed up biomedical research by helping identify and potentially bring new medicines and treatments to patients with cardiac risk, cancer, Alzheimer's, or diabetes more quickly.
On average, it takes about 17 years for a scientific discovery in a research lab to become an approved test or therapy for patients. Leading researchers at Cleveland Clinic now hope to close that gap by utilizing IBM hybrid cloud, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing technologies.
IBM Quantum System One is up and running and can put revolutionary problem solving abilities into the hands of scientists and healthcare providers right here in Mahoning County.
