Lordstown Motors EV recalled second time less than one month after first recall
Less than one month after its first recall an electric pickup truck from Lordstown Motors has been recalled a second time for a new reason.
The 2023 Lordstown Endurance pickup truck was recalled again on March 3. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) website, this recall is due to reports of defective parking brakes.
The NHTSA states that parking brakes with weakened clamping performance could fail, allowing the vehicle to roll away after being parked, especially if on a high grade, increasing the risk of crashes.
According to a defect notice sent to Lordstown Motors, the electric park brake calipers may have been built with washers that had not been properly heat treated by the supplier, causing the problem.
The defect notice, dated March 3 2023 states that as of the writing of the report, there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the defect.
Dealers will replace the electric parking brake free of charge for anyone who has a defective vehicle. Those who may have a defective vehicle should expect to receive a notification in the mail by Friday, March 17.
Owners may also contact Lordstown Motors customer service at 1-248-522-9100 or the NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
The 2023 Endurance was previously recalled on February 22, 2023 due to the risk of the loss of drive power, which could increase the risk of crashes.
