Smith Township man pleads guilty to child porn charges
A Sebring man has pled guilty to two child porn charges in court on Wednesday.
According to court records, 28-year-old Matthew Bartchy has pled guilty on one count of Receipt and Distribution of Visual Depictions of Minors Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct and one count of Possession of Child Pornography.
The charges stem from an investigation that revealed over 70 child pornography files uploaded to electronic service providers between December of 2021 and January of 2022.
A detective in Montana posed as a 13-year-old girl online as Bartchy posed as a 14-year-old girl offering to trade child pornography.
Bartchy's home was searched in March of 2022 with officers seizing his laptop and cellphone. According to an affidavit, Bartchy admitted to sending and receiving child pornography online and said that he intended on selling the files.
Originally, Bartchy was charged with 12 counts, but those charges were all dropped after prosecutors learned that Bartchy would be facing federal offenses.
Bartchy is scheduled to be sentenced on June 21 at 10:00 a.m.
