Sentencing is scheduled in June for a Trumbull County man convicted of selling drugs that resulted in a fatal overdose of an Ashtabula County woman.

Shawn Ray Smith, 35,  of North Bloomfield appeared by video before a federal judge on Thursday and plead guilty to eight charges including distribution of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm.

Investigators say Smith sold drugs that resulted in the death of Jennifer Knight on February 5, 2016.

Knight's mother told police that she was awakened by her grandchildren saying, "Mommy won't get up". According to the affidavit, she checked on her daughter and found her unresponsive.

During his arrest, Smith had three firearms and ammunition, despite prior felony convictions that prohibited him from having firearms.

U.S. District Judge Dan Polster ordered that Smith remain in custody until his sentencing scheduled for June 20.
