A part of Boardman Township is getting more than $2 million in new water pipelines in the next few months.

Aqua Ohio is investing $2.3 million to replace over two miles of pipes along Southern Boulevard.

Work is underway south of Boardman Poland Road at York Avenue across from Boardman Park. Crews will continue south along Southern Boulevard and finish up just beyond McClurg Road.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of June.

While crews replace the water lines, the road will remain open but temporary lane restrictions will be in place.

The new lines are wider than the ones currently in place with 10-inch pipes being replaced with 12-inch ones. The old cast iron line will be replaced with ductile iron pipe which Aqua Ohio says is stronger and more corrosion-resistant.

Water service is expected to continue while the work is being done but temporary interruptions may happen near the end of the project.

Aqua Ohio says they'll notify customers in advance of planned interruptions.
