Excavator injured during house explosion in New Castle

Crews were tearing down a home on Pollock Avenue when an explosion occurred, injuring a shovel operator.

One person was injured while cleaning remains of a demolished a home on Pollock Avenue in New Castle.

According to the New Castle Police Department Facebook page, an excavator was removing debris when a large explosion occurred.

The NCPD and NCFD are working with the ATF, FBI and the Alleghany County Bomb Squad to determine the cause of the blast.

The worker was taken by helicopter to a hospital.
