Bill Johnson sponsors legislation providing tax relief to East Palestine derailment victims
Valley Congressman, Bill Johnson is leading bipartisan legislation that would provide tax relief for folks affected by the East Palestine train derailment.
The East Palestine Tax Relief Act would ensure that East Palestine residents and businesses receiving disaster relief payments are exempt from paying any taxes on any compensation related to the derailment.
"Residents and businesses in East Palestine are focused on getting back to normal following the train derailment. Their lives have been upended through no fault of their own," Johnson said.
The bill has multiple co-sponsors in Ohio's Congress including Brad Wenstrup, Jim Jordan, Bob Latta, Max Miller, Warren Davidson, Troy Balderson, Emilia Strong Sykes, Dave Joyce, Mike Carey and Mike Turner.
"The sheer magnitude of suffering and damage caused to the community of East Palestine will take years to recover. This bipartisan legislation sponsored by my colleague and friend, Bill Johnson is one of many steps needed to respond to this tragedy," Congressman Turner said.
