Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine are scheduled to spend Wednesday in East Palestine as that community continues its recovery from a fiery derailment and chemical spill nearly four weeks ago.

According to a statement from the Governor’s Office, the couple will visit the derailment site for an update on the status of hazardous waste removal from Ohio EPA.

They are also scheduled to visit the contaminated area of Sulphur Run and Leslie Run for a briefing on the status of surface water testing and sediment washing.

At 11 a.m., the two will meet with the East Palestine Local Schools Superintendent Chris Neifer followed by a 2 p.m. event at the local Brightside Project where supplies are being boxed for Saturday’s community-wide crisis relief supply distribution event.

The Governor and his wife will join representatives from the Ohio EPA, U.S. EPA, FEMA, and the CDC for the daily joint press briefing at 4 p.m.

DeWine's office confirmed that the Governor is recovering from a leg injury he suffered on a stairway during last week's visit to East Palestine.

DeWine has an injury above his left ankle that will require him to wear a boot for the next few weeks.
