BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio -

Boardman Township is a step closer to getting approval of a $15.6 million project to improve the safety along the community’s busiest stretch of road.

The Transportation Review Advisory Council (TRAC) has approved the annual draft list of projects to receive funding from the Ohio Department of Transportation's Major New Capacity Program over the next four years.

Included on the list is a project that would improve capacity and safety of 1.85 miles along the U.S. Route 224 corridor from Market Street to Interstate 680 with new pavement, additional turn lanes, as well as signal and pedestrian improvements.

The project includes traffic upgrades at 224 and Tiffany Boulevard, and the addition of a turn lane from northbound Southern Boulevard to westbound 224.

The project has the support of the Eastgate Regional Council of Government and Boardman Township Trustees.

In a letter to the Ohio Department of Transportation, Township Administrator Jason Loree said that the improvements would provide much needed access to businesses.
