Betras hosting Thursday meeting on East Palestine train derailment
A Mahoning Valley attorney is holding a public meeting to answer questions regarding the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine.
Attorney David Betras will hold the meeting at the Shale Tavern & Grille Restaurant (40964 State Route 154) in Lisbon Thursday, February 16, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
According to the release, the meeting will gather information on and answer questions about the derailment for area residents.
"Our office has been inundated with calls and messages from frightened, worried, and outraged residents since the derailment occurred," Atty. Betras said. "People are confused about what they should do, whom they should trust, and what steps they should take to protect themselves, their families, businesses, and their legal rights. We'll answer those questions and provide sound advice during the meeting."
Betras says anyone living within a 50 to 60-mile radius of East Palestine should attend.
He says his office has heard of cars 70 miles from the crash site being covered in a "foul-smelling residue" after being driven in the rain and people getting on the Ohio Turnpike in North Lima reported feeling sick in the last few days.
"Everyone in the region should be extremely cautious as the investigation of the derailment and its aftermath continues," Atty. Betras said.
