A court date has been set for a Warren man who humane agents say kept a dog  underfed and in deplorable conditions in a basement.

Jamal Jackson, 38, of Kenilworth Ave. SW, has been charged with violating Ohio’s companion animal cruelty law by depriving a dog of food and water.

Trumbull County Animal Welfare League CEO Lori Shandor tells 21 news that agents went to Jackson’s home in January 2021 after being tipped off.

Shandor says they found a mixed mastiff dog in the basement, surrounded by urine and feces.

According to Shandor, the dog had not been fed for an extended period.

After being nursed back to health, Shandor says the dog has been adopted.

Jackson is scheduled to answer the charges in Warren Municipal Court on Thursday.
