Friday’s fiery rail tanker derailment in East Palestine happened less than 600 feet from the state line and the evacuation area extends into Pennsylvania.

Beaver County Emergency Services has posted a map of the one-mile evacuation area that includes part of Darlington Township.

Officials in Darlington have contacted residents inside the zone and informed them that an evacuation shelter is available at the East Palestine Jr/Sr High School.

The Darlington Township Fire Department was one of several departments dispatched when the fifty-car derailment occurred.

The Darlington Twp. FD has been sharing information from East Palestine with updates on the situation.

Most recently, authorities have stepped up efforts to get people out of the evacuation zone over fears that one of the burning cars could explode, spreading shrapnel and toxic gas.
