The National Transportation Safety Board is on scene in East Palestine collecting evidence to establish a report on the Norfolk Southern train derailment.

NTSB confirmed the derailment was caused by a mechanical issue with one of the rail car axles.

An engineer, conductor and conductor trainee were all on board but suffered no injuries. The conductor went back and decoupled the locomotives from the railcars.

The evidence gathered will be methodically and systematically reviewed to analyze the crash.

Once the fire is out, the railcars will be moved for further damage assessment.

NTSB requested track inspection records, locomotive and railcar inspections and maintenance records, as well as training records from Norfolk Southern.

If anyone has the any information, including photos and videos, on the point of derailment, they can email it to [email protected]

It will take about 18-24 months to complete the investigation on the derailment.
