Trumbull Co. Prosecutor opposes parole of convicted Newton Falls murderer
The Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office is arguing against the parole of a convicted killer from Newton Falls.
Prosecutor Dennis Watkins sent a letter to the Ohio Adult Parole Authority in hopes of keeping John Frederick Johnson behind bars.
Johnson was convicted of the 1980 murder of Wyoma Teutsch and the attempted murder of Robert Teutsch. Johnson was their ex-son-in-law.
The killing occurred on July 17, 1980 when Johnson went to the Teutsch home in the early morning hours and shot them with a .22 caliber rifle.
Wyoma was shot in the head twice and passed away. Robert was shot in the face and twice in the back but survived the attack.
According to the letter, Johnson wrote to his father while in prison, saying "I'm not sorry for what I done, I'm glad I did it!".
Watkins says Johnson fled the U.S. after the murder, took on a new identity in Canada and was involved in another murder in 1981.
A recent disciplinary record also shows that Johnson attacked another inmate with a weapon in August 2021.
Prosecutor Watkins said the victim's family is also registered with the victim/witness program and still strongly oppose his release.
A parole hearing is set for February.
