Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said 'the only constant is change'.
As a hub of retail and residential development over the last few decades, Howland Township fits that description well.

Which is why the nearly 20,000 people who live there are getting a say in what the next decade and beyond will look like.
Wednesday marked the first of two public forums to gather input - in person, online or on paper - about updates to the township's comprehensive plan.

"They can help us determine what type of housing stock we want to have in the future," said township planning director Kim Mascarella. "Do they want sidewalks? Where do they want sidewalks? Are they interested in bike lanes?"

Planning consultants from Envision Urban Planning heard a lot about nature and accessibility.
They also learned why infrastructure and connectivity topped most people's lists.

"The commercial corridors themselves, the interest in redefining what those corridors are and what the future of those corridors is going to be, I think is unique to Howland," said Ryan Smalley with Envision Urban Planning.

It'll take up to a year or more to gather all the input before a committee gets together and goes over it.
A second public forum is coming up in March, but no date has been set.
A sign of more evolution and growth, proving once again that the only constant is change.
