Weathersfield Trustees vote to place safety services levy on ballot during May election
Weathersfield Township Trustees voted Tuesday night to put a safety services levy on the ballot during a special election on May 2.
Weathersfield Township Administrator, David Rouan says the township hasn't asked voters for more money to fund police services in 20 years and the fire department hasn't asked for more money in 10 years, but now the cost of everything is going up.
"It's very important we get some new revenue to continue to provide those services. We need new fire equipment, a fire rescue pumper, we need new cruisers and we're going to hire another police officer. Right now, we're three police officers below where we're supposed to be so our hope is that the residents see the need," Rouan said.
The three-point 9.5 mil levy will generate $655,000 yearly for safety services. It will cost an average homeowner 39 cents a day.
