A Providence, Rhode Island man is in the Mahoning County Jail awaiting extradition back to that city for a murder earlier this week.

Police Maj. David Lapatin told NBC affiliate WJAR that 22-year-old Mayobanex Martinez-Abreu was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals at a Valley hotel on Wednesday.

The suspect is accused of fatally shooting 28-year-old Michael Luciano De La Rosa on Monday following an argument between the two at a business in Providence.

During a news conference in Providence, Police Detective Lt. Dennis O’Brien said that Marshals tracked Martinez-Abreu to a hotel room.  According to O'Brien, Marshals knocked on the room door and the suspect surrendered.

Two detectives from Providence have been sent to Youngstown to process the case.

Lapatin said the murder is their city’s 9th homicide of the year.
