It took Howland author Chelsea Banning 15 years to publish her first book.

After seeing a low turnout at her first book signing, she took to social media, where her book 'Of Crowns and Legends' caught the attention of authors like Stephen King and Henry Winkler.

On Monday, she gave her book signing another go as the local author started to gain more popularity.

This Howland native will now walk by 'Of Crowns and Legends' on the bookshelf at her workplace, the Girard Free Library.

"It is a King Arthur reimagining about the twin children King Arthur, and Queen Guinevere were never supposed to have, and it follows their struggles," Banning explained.

She had a challenging start promoting her book after hardly anyone showed up at her first book signing.

"It's a whole different ballgame when you're trying to promote a book, and you have to figure out where the readers are because those are your audience," Banning said.

She tweeted about the experience, gaining the attention of Stephen King, Henry Winkler, and other celebrities.

"It was very nice to see the tweet go off and show others how this part of the online and in-person community of writers and how supportive we are. Even authors who have made a big name like Stephen King and Min Jin Lee," Banning said.

The viral sensation seemed to work. Monday's book signing brought hundreds of fans looking to meet the local author. The book has already sold more than 7,000 copies.

"I've seen the struggle to get to this point, and she's actually living her dream. A dream that she's had since she was a child," Bee Horne, a friend of Banning, said.

Now, Banning is enjoying the rising success of this career milestone.

"Even when you feel discouraged, take a little bit of a break and then pick yourself back up and then keep going. Don't give up that hope," Banning said.

Banning hopes to make this into a trilogy.
