The Mahoning County Dog Warden is calling on the public for help after reporting that they are out of kennels for medium and large breed dogs.

The Dog Warden describes this as a "very urgent situation" and says they currently have 88 dogs with 99% of them being strays no one has claimed.

According to a Facebook post from the Dog Warden, due to the level of staffing, this makes the situation even harder.

"We are currently eight individuals taking care of 88 dogs with one deputy on the road. Not all nine of us work every single day. Two of our staff members are part-time. This puts one person in the office to answer phones, dispatch calls, sell licenses, check emails and process applications," the post read.

The post goes on to state that any number of emergencies can interrupt an already hectic day.

"Some weeks are more overwhelming than others but the last few months have been nothing less than horrific. We are doing our best and our best is admittedly NOT GOOD ENOUGH," the post continued.

The Mahoning County Dog Warden is looking for adopters and volunteers to help with this crisis.

If you would like to volunteer, the Dog Warden has a class at 4:00 p.m. the last Thursday of each month. If you would like to foster, you can contact a local rescue group.
