The Laundress has issued a recall of various laundry detergent and household cleaning products due to the risk of exposure to bacteria.

The recalled products may contain bacteria including Burkholderia cepacia complex, Klebsiella aerogenes and multiple species of Pseudomonas, many of which are environmental organisms found in soil and water, and some may also be found in humans.

Those exposed to the bacteria with weakened immune systems, external medical devices and underlying lung conditions who are exposed to the bacteria face risk of a serious infection that may require medical treatment.

The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled or through the eyes or break in the skin. Those with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.

So far, there have been 11 reported Pseudomonas infections. The Laundress is currently investigating to see if these infections are linked with the recalled products.

The recall applies to many The Laundress laundry detergent, fabric conditioner and other cleaning products with lot codes beginning with the letter F with the last four digits numbered 2262 or less, as well as starting with the letter T and the last four digits numbered 5264 or less.
