A Mercer County man has been sentenced in the Mercer County Court of Common Pleas on Tuesday for the murder of his wife in June of 2021.

Mercer County District Attorney, Peter Acker tells 21 News that 45-year-old Eric George of Coolspring Township was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison on charges of third degree murder, aggravated assault with serious bodily injuries and strangulation.

According to police, George had admitted to a dispatcher that he had strangled his 41-year-old wife, Serena Anne Schroeder. Schroeder was found dead in George's mother's home at the Pine Grove Mobile Home Park.

George had married Schroeder shortly before the incident.

George is a registered sex offender in both Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Court records show he was sentenced to 11 years in prison in Wisconsin back in 2000 after being convicted of second and third degree sexual assault.

Court records show that George is a repeat offender. Acker referred to George as a "third striker."
