Mercer County schools win awards in PennDOT 'Paint the Plow' contest
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's (PennDOT) northwest region has announced the District 1 winner of its "Paint the Plow" safety outreach contest.
Farrell High School was selected for the "Fan Favorite" award, which was determined by online votes on PennDOT's website.
The winning plow depicted melting ice falling onto a cell phone containing a prohibition symbol to convey the theme of "Put down the device in snow and ice" (pictured above).
West Middlesex High School in Mercer County also received an honorable mention.
Mercer High School was the winner of the "Judge's Pick" award, which was chosen by PennDOT representatives.
The winning plow (pictured below) shows a cracked cell phone surrounded by app logos and text messages surrounded by the message, "Put down the device in snow and ice."
Farrell High School's plow was among the honorable mentions for judge's pick.
These blades will be used by PennDOT throughout this winter season to maintain the roadways across the six counties of Northwest PA.
