Is national turkey shortage affecting the Mahoning Valley?

There have been reports of a national turkey shortage because of the Avian flu impacting millions of birds leaving people concerned about whether there will be enough turkeys at the store for Thanksgiving dinner.
The Ohio Grocers Association said when you shop for Thanksgiving dinner this year, you may notice turkeys are smaller, and more likely to be frozen than in years past.
"From everything I'm hearing, we will certainly have a supply of turkey," Ohio Grocers Association President & CEO Kristin Mullins said, "What you may find more difficult is looking for those big turkeys."
It may be harder to find turkeys 20-25 pounds, so depending on how much families need, they may need to buy two turkeys.
"They're having to take the turkeys younger so that they can keep up with the demand so that's why they're smaller," Mullins said.
Price increases and turkey limits will depend on individual stores.
Turkeys are a huge part of charities like the Warren Family Mission which rely on gathering hundreds of them every year to provide Thanksgiving dinner to those in need, so any kind of potential shortage means they need to think ahead since they have 25-30% more mouths to feed this year.
Warren Family Mission said they are still in need of 220 turkeys so any help is much appreciated.
Marrari said they do feel confident they'll be able to meet the needs with all the help they get from the community.
