With less than two weeks to election day, things are really getting down to the wire and if you live in Trumbull County, you may have noticed a slower than usual turn around time for receiving absentee ballots in the mail.

"We've had about sixteen thousand that we've processed already and there's a few more that still need to be processed," said Stephanie Penrose, Trumbull County Board of Elections Director. "That is actually more than we had requested in all of 2018," she said.

The influx of ballot requests caused a five day delay, until they started picking up extra hours.

"Most days we're working ten to twelve hours, we're working Saturdays, just to get these ballots out to the voters," Penrose said.

Now, that turn around time is about three days.

"First class postage is now three to five days, so when it leaves here, if we have a three day turn around in our office, you can expect it three to five days later," Penrose said.

In Georgia, some GOP voters are planning on voting or turning absentee ballots in person only on election day, for fear of a stolen election.

Penrose tells 21 News if that were to happen here, it would slow the process down but nonetheless, she's confident they would still get it all done by the end of election night.

The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is November 5th at noon and you must return it to your local board of elections by 7:30 on election day, November 8th. If you choose to mailed it, then it must be postmarked by November 7th.
