A local winery is celebrating its success with the nation's largest retailer.

L'uva Bella winery in Lowelleville held a tour Tuesday with local lawmakers and representatives from Walmart. They may have started out small but they have grown immensely.

"Knowing how much we've grown with Walmart since 2017 we are now found in over 9 states and in thousands of locations. It's a great opportunity today to reflect on that growth," said Marisa Sergi.

Marisa first pitched her red head wine to Walmart in 2017. Now their relationship has grown to the point where they make about a million bottles at their Lowellville winery each year.

"We've also been able to support the growth through additional infrastructures so adding more tanks and capacity and throughput has been able to help us prepare to grow beyond Ohio," added Sergi.

A recent million dollar expansion at the winery included several large outside fermenting tanks.

A Walmart regional manager with stores in five states says local businesses like L'uva Bella are part of their commitment to use more American goods in their stores. In fact, they spent over 7 billion dollars in Ohio suppliers this year alone.

"When you can build an ecosystem that creates jobs for others it's very, very important to do that," said Adonis Clark.

Right now L'uva Bella is in the top 20% of winemakers in the U.S. and they hope to expand and get even bigger. They make about 100,000 cases here each year and in the coming years they hope to get to 300,000.
