A local artist who has received nation attention for his artwork brought one of his newest works to the Butler Institute of American Art Wednesday, but it wasn't something that could exactly fit inside the museum.
Steve Chaszyeka's latest work of art isn't just big, it's on fire (but not literally.)
Normally, Steve's favorite kind of canvas to work on are motorcycles and yes, he did do one to match the rest of his work here.
Steve is known all over the country for his pinstriping art. In fact, he helped design the 2014 Olympic bodsled uniforms and sled art.
But a commissioned motor home, trailer and trike were done by him on the computer. And Digital art was a big change for him.
"You learn the programs and then you create this digital art in some fantasy world where there's these layers and overlays I never had to use before. You work with a stylus instead of a brush. you work on a screen instead of paper or metal," said Steve.
Dave Weaver of Maryland has known Steve for over 30 years and he wanted him to design this moving canvas that, as you might imagine, turns a lot of heads on the highway. Most people ask him what rock band he's in.
"It's beautiful artwork. a piece of moving art. I hand it to him and I come back and I am just amazed every time I see it. The guy's a genius as far as his design and everything," said Dave
So what's next for Steve? Well, he'll still do what he likes doing best, pinstriping motorcycles, but as far as the piece of art parked in front of the Butler, your best chance of seeing that?... somewhere on the open road.
