Struthers woman accused of striking, kicking police officer
A Struthers woman spent part of the weekend in jail after police say she struck and kicked an officer who arrested her during a traffic stop.
Police say they spotted 31-year-old Miranda Fairchild driving a car at a high rate of speed along Youngstown Poland Road early Sunday.
According to a police report, the car only had one working headlight almost striking the curbs and swerving after making a turn onto Midlothian Boulevard.
After pulling the car over, an officer says Fairchild slammed her car door into him and reached through the window, punching him in the chest.
After a second officer arrived, police say Fairchild refused to place her hands behind her back so she could be handcuffed.
The police report says Fairchild kicked an officer in the thigh before they eventually handcuffed her.
Officers say they struggled to place the woman in a police cruiser, claiming Fairchild continued to flail about.
Once in the cruiser, police say Fairchild kicked the partition between the front and back seat, banging her head on the cruiser’s rear window.
Fairchild was booked into the county jail on charges of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and driving without a valid license.
She was scheduled to appear in Struthers Municipal Court on Monday.
