City of Youngstown receives over $20,000 grant to prevent crime
The City of Youngstown is set to receive over $20,000 in grant money to help prevent crime.
Congressman Tim Ryan announced Thursday afternoon that the City of Youngstown will be receive $26,353 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Justice through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.
The grant program allows units of local government to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions.
These funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice or civil proceedings, including mental health courts, drug courts, veterans courts and extreme risk protection order programs.
"We truly appreciate Congressman Tim Ryan for helping Youngstown Police Department secure the DOJ Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant," said Mayor Jamael Tito Brown.
"This grant funding will provide our men and women with updated safety equipment, that will be used to help keep our community safe," says Mayor Brown.
Congressman Tim Ryan congratulated Mayor Brown and the Youngstown Police Department in securing the funds, and Congressman Ryan plans to continue to work with local law enforcement to secure federal funds to help fight crime and protect communities.
