FBI: Google tip leads to suspect accused of downloading child pornography
A suspect in a child pornography investigation is in the Mahoning County jail after the FBI arrested him following a tip from the search engine company Google.
Agents arrested 37-year-old Joseph Smalley of Brady Lake last week for allegedly receiving images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
According to an affidavit, Google reported evidence of child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children earlier this month.
The FBI says its investigation found that Smalley downloaded seventeen videos and nine pictures, some of which included girls as young as eight years old engaged in sex acts.
Investigators say Smalley admitted downloading the material following the end of a romantic relationship.
A federal judge has scheduled a detention hearing for Smalley on Friday.
