Fatal crash in Austintown claims life of Campbell man
The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at Interstate 80 eastbound and Interstate 680 southbound Thursday.
Mitchel McCarthy, 29, of Campbell, was killed in the crash that occur at 1:08 p.m.
According to the OSP report, the 2019 Ram 1500 driven by McCarthy passed another truck driven by a 66-year-old man at a high rate of speed, according to witnesses.
The report said as McCarthy attempted to change lanes from the left lane to the right lane, and clipped the front of truck driven by the 66-year-old. McCarthy lost control his truck, causing it to overturn multiple times.
McCarthy was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his truck.
The other driver was not injured.
The accident had traffic on Interstate 80 East has traffic backed up near state Route 11.
Austintown Fire Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol were called to the scene. I-680 is also closed between Market St. and South Avenue for a semitrailer hauling milk that crashed and spilled its content onto the main artery through the city.
In a third incident happened on Interstate 680, with Boardman Police dispatch reporting a vehicle in the meridian on I-680 southbound near Midlothian Blvd. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating this crash as well.
