Several fire and law enforcement agencies including Pennsylvania State Police, the Mercer County coroner's office and the PA State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating a deadly fire in Mercer County.

The first calls came in just after midnight Friday from someone driving by the home near the intersection of District and Redfoot Roads in Delaware Township, between Greenville and Mercer.

A source close to the investigation initially told 21 News that four bodies had been recovered from the scene, and the search was ongoing for a fifth.

PSP Corporal Timothy Repp told 21 News late Friday evening that they could not confirm the number of victims or whether that number was more or fewer than five. Repp also confirmed that personnel from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were on scene, but could not confirm why they were there.

Search dogs and forensic personnel were seen combing through the charred remains of the farm house Friday afternoon. We're told investigators will be back on scene either Saturday or Monday. PSP Mercer said it would release more information as investigators confirmed it.

PennDOT shut down District Road in the area of the fire for much of the day Friday, but as of Friday evening it has reopened.

The coroner has not yet released information about who died in the fire. PSP could not comment as to a potential cause of the fire at this time.
