One of the country's rising Republican tides stopped in The Valley, hoping to lift Ohio US Senate candidate JD Vance's boat.

"If you know anything about our state, you know you don't have to look very far to find somebody from Ohio," joked Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

Friday's 'Unite to Win' rally was one of several that the possible presidential hopeful has been part of.  He's teaming up with GOP candidates like Vance to shore up party support going into the November general election.

"Thank you for being patriotic enough to care about this country enough to come out and fight for it," said Vance.

Both he and DeSantis criticized everyone from journalists to medical experts to teachers.

Their speeches pointed out what they say Democrats have done wrong but didn't go into detail about policy change.

DeSantis did promise Vance - if elected - would follow the formula of leadership he says has worked in his state.

"We need people who are going to go up there and do something with the majority," said DeSantis. "Stop talking and actually get something done. I think JD is going to be a leader, not a follower."

The Washington Post reported on some unusual media restrictions at Friday's event earlier this week.  They included a request for access to news video taken at the rally.  21 News did not agree to those restrictions and was not asked to abide by them Friday night.
