Looking for a store that sells groceries, clothing for the family, home decor and furnishings, auto accessories, and more, but at discounted prices? Well, Roses Discount Store may be just what you are looking for.
"We're above some of the dollar stores, and we're below a Kohl's or some of the higher-end stores," Andy Jones, Director of Special Projects for Variety Wholesalers, said. "We have our own niche, our own prices. We have very, very good prices."
Roses, a discount department store chain based out of Raleigh, North Carolina, is opening a new store in the Boardman Plaza at the corner of Boardman-Canfield Road and Hitchcock Rd.
The 55,948 sq. ft. store will offer food, clothing, electronics, bed and bath accessories, auto accessories, health and beauty supplies, kitchen accessories, shoes, and toys, and is scheduled to open on Aug. 25, according to Karyn Neapolitan, property management for America's Reality for Boardman Plaza.
"I think this is a good niche for our plaza," Neapolitan said.
Roses Discount Stores, originally known as Rose's 5¢ 10¢ 25¢ Stores, was founded in Henderson, North Carolina, in 1915. The stores were purchased in 1997 by Variety Discounts, Inc. The chain, primarily known in the Southeast US, expanded and now operates 400 stores, expanding into Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.
"Our clothing department outpaces anyone," Jones said. "We sell Wrangler jeans for 9.99 first quality every day. We have a tremendous clothing department, and we back it up with everything from HBA products to furniture and everything in between."
Tricia D'Avignon, Assistant Director of Zoning and Development for Boardman Township, told 21 News that Variety Discounts first applied for a renovation permit for the Boardman location in September of 2021.
Roses offers a 10 percent discount every Wednesday for anyone 55 and older.
