A Youngstown man was jailed after Campbell police said he was driving around with a 4-year-old child who had a gun within reach.
Police say they pulled over a Jeep for speeding on Wilson Avenue at around 4 a.m. Sunday.
According to police, the four-year-old girl in the back seat was not wearing a seat belt, and there was a 9mm semi-automatic pistol on the car’s floor within reach of the child. The gun had been reported as stolen.
The driver, 47-year-old Marcus Roach, told police that the gun belonged to his son, who had reported it as being stolen, but later found it and never told police he had recovered the weapon.
Roach was booked into the county jail on charges of endangering children and receiving stolen property.
He was also cited for speeding and failing to restrain the child.
Since no one was immediately available to take custody of the girl, she was turned over to Children’s Services.
Roach will be arraigned in Campbell Municipal Court.
