Calcutta, Hanover firefighters returning home after Kentucky flood rescue
Firefighters from two Columbiana County fire departments headed back home late Sunday after spending three days helping search and rescue efforts in a flood-ravaged eastern Kentucky community.
A crew made up of firefighters from the Calcutta and Hanover fire departments say they wrapped up their participation in Operation Hazard Kentucky Floods Search & Rescue.
On Sunday, Hanover Firefighters Tim Roush, and Adam Williams along with Calcutta Fire Lieutenant Randy Schneider performed more searches with Kentucky State Police, the Kentucky Division of Wildlife, and the Lexington Fire Department in Jackson, Kentucky.
Crews also helped distribute water and set up decontamination areas.
“Our mission is now complete, and crews are now en route back to Ohio,” according to a post on the Calcutta Fire Department’s Facebook page.
“Thank you to our great communities for all your support back home in supporting us. The affected areas couldn’t believe how much support our citizens back home give us to participate and help in these natural disaster trips,” according to the post.
This was the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department’s second trip to Kentucky in less than a year after participating in search and rescue following devastating tornadoes in Mayfield, Kentucky this past December.
