An influx of dogs are close to flooding the Trumbull County Dog pound and with the inside full, they're now housing some pups outside.

"I have noticed that there have been recently a lot of people calling in to see if they can surrender their dogs as well, which currently because we have been so full," said Corey Behnke, Chief Dog Warden at the Trumbull County dog pound. "We're just not able to take any other surrenders," he said.

Inflation is making the pound burst at the seams. Those people trying to surrender are those who can no longer care for their dogs. This is not the only contributing factor, picking up strays has also congested the place.

The situation is more of the same at the Mahoning County dog pound and Animal Charity of Ohio. These facilities are nearly filled to the brim with animals and becoming more crowded, daily.

"All of our resources as far as rescues, different places that we can maybe channel some of these dogs to, they are full," said Mahoning County Dog Warden Dianne Fry.

"We have decided that we're just going to have to take a loan out and invest in a bigger space because there's that many animals," said Animal Charity of Ohio Opersations Director Jane MacMurchy.

These organizations are asking the public to adopt a pet or tell a friend about it because if things continue to go down this path, it could mean a hard decision must be made.

"We have to make much more drastic decisions on the dogs," said Fry. "Sometimes it's a necessity, up until this point we have never had to euthanize for space and I hope we don't ever get to that point," she said.

Each facility is offering incentives like paying adoption fees or shots and if you would like ot adopt a cat or dog, you can go to any of these websites: Trumbull County Dog Warden, Mahoning County Dog Warden, Animal Charity of Ohio
