Drivers in the Mahoning Valley are feeling less pain at the pump as they fill up this week.

According to Triple-A, Ohio is among ten states seeking the largest decrease in the price of regular gas, with the cost dropping 21 cents over the past week.

Here in the Valley, the cheapest gas around could be found at Gateway on Market Street in Youngstown where a gallon of regular was selling for $3.57.

Elsewhere, it wasn’t difficult to find gas selling for under $4.  Newton Falls has gas for $3.79 according to gasbuddy.com.

Triple-A reports that the average gasoline price in Mahoning and Trumbull counties is $3.98, 17 cents below the statewide average of $4.15 and 37 cents below the national average of $4.35.

In Mercer County gas is selling for an average of $4.54, which is about the same as Pennsylvania’s statewide average.

According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration, gas demand increased last week. However, the rate is lower than last year and is in line with demand during the middle of July 2020, when COVID-19 measures curbed demand.

Additionally, total domestic gasoline stocks increased, signaling that low demand led to growth in inventory last week. If gas demand remains low as stocks increase, alongside a continuing reduction in crude prices, drivers will likely see pump prices decline, according to AAA.
