Airports in Pennsylvania and Ohio receive millions in funding
Three Pennsylvania airports and 2 Ohio airports are receiving millions in funding from the Airport Terminal Program.
The Pennsylvania airports include the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE).
PIT has received received $20 million in support of its Terminal Modernization Program. According to the press release, this project includes building a 700,000 square-foot landside terminal to "improve the passenger security screening checkpoint and checked baggage inspection system, baggage handling equipment, U.S. Customs and Border Protection area and associated public spaces."
PHL received $24 million to add restrooms, rooms for nursing mothers, gender-neutral restrooms, adult-assisted care restrooms and pet relief areas.
ABE received $5 million to help finish a terminal connector project that has already begun.
The 2 Ohio airports, Darke County Airport and Newark Heath Airport, received $1.35 million and $2.38 million respectively to reconstruct new terminal buildings. The current terminal buildings are over 50 years old.
