Youngstown grandmother charged with child endangerment after overdose incident
The grandmother of two grandchildren is charged with Child Endangerment after an alleged overdose incident at a residence on North Hartford Avenue.
Police spoke with the aunt of the two grandchildren; one two-year-old and one three-month-old. Police say the grandmother has custody over the two children.
The aunt told police that she was called by her nephew who told her that the children's grandmother, later identified as 43-year-old Carlene Silver, was unresponsive in the upstairs bathroom.
Police spoke to the nephew, who told police Silver was going upstairs to wet her hair, but never came back down. Eventually, he went upstairs and observed Silver passed out on the bathroom floor and called 911.
Police say during this time, the two grandkids were downstairs not being taken care of.
Police say they also observed about a dozen dogs in the kitchen all appearing to be malnourished and not properly taken care of.
Police say most of the dogs had severely matted hair and officers smelled the odor of urine throughout the house stating these were poor living conditions for the dogs and the grandchildren.
Silver was revived with Narcan. Upon revival, she told police she did not know what happened and claimed she had not taken any drugs that day.
Silver was transported to the hospital when her mother arrived to take the kids into custody and humane agents were called in reference to the dogs.
Silver was booked into the Mahoning County Jail where she is charged with Endangering children.
