Vindicator file photo / June 30, 1987 | The Youngstown YMCA opened Camp Fitch on the shores of Lake Erie 35 years ago, marking the 73 rd season for the camp. In addition to horseback riding, the camp offered swimming, archery, sailing, and other sports.

1997: Bellaria Pizzeria, a Youngstown fixture for 40 years since Phyllis Frasco and Rose Liberato opened a shop on Albert Street, has approved 11 franchise locations in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys.
Local state Reps. Ronald Gerberry and Robert Hagan are pursuing legislation to give the state more authority in dealing with private prisons, including the ability to prosecute escapees.
Youngstown Police Lt. Robert Sharp says the city will be more aggressive this year in prosecuting people setting off illegal fireworks around July Fourth. Ohioans who buy fireworks sign an agreement to take them out of the state within 48 hours and Sharp says police will confiscate fireworks in violation of that agreement or for which the person does not have a receipt.
1982: The Liberty Board of Education named Pat Sebastiano, principal of the Rayen School in Youngstown, the superintendent at a starting salary of $40,000, which is $2,000 less than Herb Thomas was paid.
Daniel J. Rossi, president of First Educators Investment Corp., purchases a building at Federal Plaza West and Hazel Street to serve as the company's headquarters with about 15 employees.
The latest restaurant in the Red Lobster chain opens at 1410 Boardman-Poland Road. The restaurant cost $1.6 million and employs about 100.
1972: The FBI identifies Ronnie Carabbia as the boss of a lucrative dice game broken up at the Main Street Social Club in Struthers.
A dynamite blast destroys the front porch of a home at 1028 Star Street on Youngstown's East Side. Charles Heath, a GM worker and owner of the home, has no explanation for the blast. He was home with his wife and four children, ages five years to 18 months when the bomb went off.
Marie Kregar is appointed children's librarian for the Girard Free Public Library.
1947: Lewis Levine, mayor of Farrell, Pa., for 12 years will retire after guiding the city through the waning days of the Great Depression and through the World War II years.
Mahoning County commissioners provide $12,000 to the Board of Elections to finance countywide voter registration work.
The Poland Polo Club gets its second win of the season, defeating the highly rated Harbor Hills team 9-6 in Columbus.
