For the first time in Canfield Fair history, the Board of Directors is holding a job fair in hopes they will recruit more workers to run to the 176th Canfield Fair this summer.

The fair bard said, due to the fact that many businesses around the state are struggling to find workers, they don't want to find themselves in the same boat when it comes to running the state's biggest county fair.

Fair Board Director George Roman said he's trying to get ahead of the problem by finding workers early and looking to fill around 100 spots.

"We're not in panic mode," Roman said, "But we just want to be a little reactive rather than proactive in getting ahead of the game."

The board is hosting a job fair on July 9th from 10 am-2 pm at the Canfield Fairgrounds Event Center to recruit employees for work opportunities during the fair, which takes place from August 31st through September 5th.

Roman said pay is "minimum wage or higher."

Positions include team members for parking, gate admissions and ushers.

Shifts are 10 hours or less.

"This is an opportunity for someone who's just looking for some part-time employment for a six-day run," he said, "There are some good benefits that go with it, so we're hoping we can attract some good people."

Roman said fair workers are able to enjoy the fair for free and ushers will be able to watch the annual concert in the grandstand for free.

When it comes to vendors, he said the board expects there to be a lot more this year compared to the last after COVID-19 concerns caused the 2021 Canfield Fair to be down about 30 vendors.

He said he only expects a "few" vendors to be down in 2022, but they have not nailed down a number of total vendors yet.
