Angels for Animals is sounding the alarm and stressing the importance of having stray cats spayed or neutered.

The non-profit posted to their Facebook page that 110 cats were surrendered in just six days and said, 48 of those cats arrived in just two days.

Founder Diane Less says unfortunately the high volume of cats is not unusual for this time of year -  also known as "kitten season."

"If I could just train the public to understand when you see that first cat, get a trap off of us and get it," said Less.

Less explains how quickly cats reproduce.

"That litter they have around the first of March, those kittens will all have babies by the time the snow flies, and then that mother cat is going to have kittens two or three times a season," said Less.

Angels for Animals offers specials on spaying and neutering most of the year. Individuals can also bring a trapped, pregnant cat in without an appointment (Monday- Thursday) and have the cat fixed that same day.

Currently, the shelter is running a 'Show Us the Mommy' special, where the mother cat can be fixed for $30. This also includes a rabies vaccine and testing. And, each kitten is spayed/neutered for only $10.

The normal cost to fix a cat without a special is $60 plus $15 for a mandatory rabies vaccine.

The overcrowding has put a strain on supplies and space. Angels for Animals is asking for donations. More information can be found, here.
